The staff in Student Engagement and Academic Success work with individual students, as well as with student groups, faculty, and staff to provide personal and academic success programming for students.

Jef Aquino, M.Ed.

SEAS Coach

Augustine Hall, Ground Floor

[email protected] | 925.631.4239

Jef has worked in higher ed. for about 17 years - 7 of those here at SMC.  He is the current Coordinator for the High Potential program, the Resident Director for Mitty Hall where he resides with his family, and is the advisor for the Asian Pacific American Student Association and the Polynesian Club.

Jef likes to think of himself as sushi - there's so much rolled into one thing.  The Jef roll would be a breakfast roll that would have fried egg and fried rice rolled in bacon.

Jim Fawcett, M.A.

Administrative Assistant, Student Engagement & Academic Success (SEAS)

& High Potential Program (HP)

Augustine Hall, Ground Floor

[email protected] | 925.631.4349

Jim has 11 years of professional experience in Higher Education, in both Student and Academic Affairs.  His great professional joy is engaging with students and being a part of their collegiate success in any form. He is a consummate perfectionist and prides himself on getting things done the right way, the first time, but remains flexible and open to productive criticism. A native to Cleveland, OH, Jim is a tortured sports fan with the exception of the Nation Champion Ohio State Buckeyes! Jim enjoys walks/hikes with his partner and almost 4 year old son, gourmet cooking and experimenting and really good TV and Film Drama’s.

If there were a Sushi Roll named, The Jim Fawcett, it would have orzo pasta instead of rice, smoked salmon, roasted asparagus, pickled red onion, lemon zest, and goat cheese inside, with a drizzle of balsamic vinegar, crème fraiche, and a sprinkle of fresh dill on top!

Collin Pugh, M.A.

SEAS Coach/Coordinator for Tutorial & Academic Skills Center (TASC)

Filippi Academic Hall 175

[email protected] | 925.631.4678

Collin Pugh enjoys working with college students because he gets to witness students transformation from first year students trying to figure out what they want to make in to seniors who not only have a vision of what they want to do with the rest of their lives, but more importantly how their work is going to create positive change. He has worked in higher education for over seven years.  Collin was born and raised in Oakland. He received his undergraduate degree in Communication with a Religious Studies minor in 2005 and received his Masters in Counseling with an emphasis in Marriage and Family therapy in 2014 from Saint Mary’s.

If Collin were a pizza, it would be called the spicy carnivore. The pizza would have pepperoni, sausage, and ground beef. It would be topped with sun dried tomatoes, pepper flakes and a healthy dose of Sriracha.

Judy Selland, M.A.

SEAS Coach

Augustine Hall, Ground Floor

[email protected] | 925.631.4408

Judy Selland started working at Saint Mary's in August of 1999 in the Office of Academic Affairs as an administrative assistant to the Vice President of Academic Affairs/Provost.  It was there she began working with students on academic probation.  She earned her MA in Counseling, College Student Services here at SMC in 2007.  In 2011 she moved into Augustine to continue working with student as a SEAS coach.

If there was a pizza named after Judy it would be call the JustJudes and be full of your daily dose of vegetables - with fruit for desert on the side.

Marisol Silva, M.A.

SEAS Coach

Augustine Hall, Ground Floor

[email protected] | 925.631.4357

Marisol Silva loves working with college students and has over twelve years of experience in higher education.  Her work has always focused on educational equity and social justice issues in a wide variety of professional capacities including student affairs, public affairs, university teaching, and federal grant reviews, and her holistic approach is deeply informed by women of color feminist theory and praxis.  Marisol is originally a public school kid from Glendale, Arizona, and received a BA in Latin American Studies from Yale University, an MA in Comparative Ethnic Studies, and is currently pursuing a PhD in Comparative Ethnic Studies with a Designated Emphasis in Women, Gender, and Sexuality from the University of California, Berkeley.

If Marisol were a pizza, she'd have a delightfully crunchy-on-the-outside-chewy-on-the-inside crust, and be topped with pepperonis and pineapple; but if she were a pizza made at The Cheese Board in Berkeley, she'd be topped with fresh California corn, zucchini, red onion, mozzarella and Valbreso feta cheeses, garlic olive oil, cilantro, and lime.
