Moving Online: Academic Resources for Students

College offices remain open and eager to help you navigate the transition to remote learning. Please take advantage of the academic support available, including new, flexible offerings designed to assist you in practicing social distancing and moving to online classes.

Stay Connected

  • Please check your SMC email frequently for updates and additional resources from the College and your professors.

  • Please reach out to your faculty members with any questions or needs that you might have in your classes.

  • Need technology assistance? The IT Help Desk ( or 925-631-4266) is here to help!

  • Check out the IT Services FAQs for staying connected. Included there are resources for free and low-cost internet service and laptop/equipment lending.


Stay on Track

  • The Library will continue to provide services remotely. Please see the Library website and the Remote Library Resources page.

  • Undergraduate students: your faculty advisor remains your primary point of contact for registration questions and academic planning. Please contact them by email with any questions or concerns that might emerge. The Advising Office can provide additional academic guidance or help as needed. 

  • Graduate and Professional Program students: please continue to work with your Program Director for help in navigating any academic issues you might encounter.


Get Support — Tutoring and Academic Support Services

  • Access 24/7 online tutoring, via TutorMe. An online video of how to access is located here.

  • The Tutorial and Academic Skills Center (TASC) can offer virtual peer to peer tutoring in a variety of SMC related courses. Submit this form to make a request. 

  • The Center for Writing Across the Curriculum (CWAC) offers videoconference 1-1 sessions and Writing Circles ~ via Zoom, Google Hangouts, or Skype. Please request an appointment by emailing

  • The Science, Engineering, Math, and Technology Center (STEM Center) will continue to offer drop in tutoring via online methods. Students should visit the website to join a session.

  • Schedule a virtual appointment with your Success Coach to work through a plan to ensure your success.

  • Please visit the Student Disabilities Services website for information about how your accommodations work in online/remote formats.

Career and Professional Development Services (CPDS)

High Potential Program (HP)

  • Please contact your Success Coach directly to schedule a phone call or Zoom meeting. Our Success Coaches are flexible in navigating time zone differences.

Student Disability Services (SDS)

  • Note: Test proctoring in the SDS office is not available at this time.  Students will work directly with their faculty to take any tests or quizzes online in the same format as their class peers.  Faculty will set any applicable extended time on the online tests to ensure accommodations are met.

Student Engagement and Academic Success (SEAS)

  • Please contact your Success Coach directly to schedule a Zoom meeting. Our Success Coaches are flexible in navigating time zone differences.

The Advising Office (TAO)

  • Faculty Advisors are available by email, and should be your primary point of contact for academic planning and registration-related questions.
