The Brothers’ Superior General in Rome has approved the affiliation of Professor Edward Tywoniak to the worldwide Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools. Ed, who recently retired following a 40-year career here, has been one of the champions of the Brothers’ educational mission. The affiliation celebration will take place on Saturday, April 18, at Saint Mary’s.

It is with great pleasure that I announce to you that the Brothers’ Superior General in Rome has approved the affiliation of Professor Edward (Ed) Tywoniak. Ed has long been associated with Saint Mary’s College of California. He graduated there in 1975 and began teaching with the Brothers at Saint Mary’s Grammar School at Mont La Salle. Shortly thereafter he began a forty-year career back at the College, achieving his doctorate along the way and retiring as a much beloved leader in the Department of Communication. Ed is widely known to the Brothers, nationally and internationally. He has been a zealous and faithful member of District Mission Assemblies. He has also been the recipient of a number of campus awards recognizing the Lasallian tenor of his own teaching and mentoring of students. During his last sabbatical, in 2015, he devoted his time and scholarship to an aboriginal school conducted by the Brothers in Balgo, Western Australia. The study that emerged was something that he was able to share with the College as well as the Casa Generalizia in Rome. Ed has been one of the champions of the Brothers' educational mission and did much during his tenure to spread its tenets to his peers at the College through the many positions of faculty leadership he has held. Ed is now retired from the College and has embarked on his next career of enjoying family time in the company of his wife, Linda, his mom, Frances, his daughter Danae and her family, his son, Doug, and wide circle of friends and colleagues. Please mark your calendars for the affiliation celebration on Saturday, April 18, 2020, at Saint Mary’s College. Mass will be celebrated at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel and will be followed by a public reception in the atrium of Brousseau Hall.
