Alumna Melanie Stansbury Wins Special Election to Congress from New Mexico

On June 1, Melanie Stansbury, who graduated from Saint Mary's in 2002 with a degree in Human Ecology and Natural Science, was elected to the House of Representatives from New Mexico. In 2019 Ms. Stansbury was elected to the New Mexico state legislature. Previously she served on the staff of the U.S. Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources after spending three years in the White House Office of Management and Budget. She replaces Rep. Deb Haaland, who is now the Secretary of the Interior. Stansbury won the election in New Mexico's 1st Congressional District with over 60% of the popular vote.
