Alumni Award Winners Named
The 2010 Alumni Awards Dinner was held on April 29 as part
of the events during the College's annual De La Salle Week. This year's winners are:
Alumnus of the Year: Bernie Orsi '65
Orsi has been an active member of the alumni community since his graduation 45 years ago. Orsi has served as a trustee and regent, and is a lifetime President's Club member. He has also been a sponsor for the Northern California Golf Tournament in support of athletics for 22 years. Orsi established the Orsi Family Endowed Scholarship for deserving Saint Mary's students, and as a trustee of the Kalmonavitz Charitable Foundation, he was responsible for securing a multi-million dollar gift for the new School of Education building. Bernie also serves as a trustee for the East Bay Scholarship Fund, which has benefited many SMC students.
Honorary Alumnus and Alumna: Phil and Sharon
The Lebherzes are being honored for their years of service as Saint Mary's parents to Regan '03 and Everett '05. Regan played lacrosse for coach Diane Whipple, who was fatally mauled by a dog. The Diane Whipple/Alison Huber endowed scholarship they founded is now at $200,000. Phil is a College trustee. The Lebherzes have hosted many College events.
De La Salle Award: Brother Michael Avila '70. Brother Michael is a popular professor who has led the Christian Internship program for 25 years, affecting hundreds of students and alumni who traveled in and out of the United States to work with at-risk individuals, including students at urban schools and chronically ill patients. Some of Brother Michael's students have gone on to work as Lasallian Volunteers.

Signum Fidei Award: John Tarabini '59
Tarabini's work with the Class of '59 has served as a model for other classes. He organizes a quarterly luncheon for the class and is committed to keeping them connected to SMC. In addition, Tarabini was responsible for coordinating the Class of '59 endowed scholarship.
Certificate of Merit: Ken Vincent '52
Vincent has volunteered at the College for more than 50 years. He is a lifetime President's Club member, serves on the Board of Regents, Athletic Honors Court, the President's Athletic Council and the Campus Athletic Recreation Sports Committee. He also established the Vincent Family Endowed Scholarship in support of the baseball program.
GOLD Award: Alisa Macksey '00
Macksey is the executive director of the Lasallian Volunteers program with more than 50 young volunteers throughout America. She supervises a staff of four, attends national and international meetings of Brothers and their partners and advises the national office staff of the De La Salle Brothers.
