An Atmosphere of Gratitude

As the College has moved quickly into the fall semester, there are many to acknowledge for a smooth operation thus far. The entire community is grateful for the completion of two major facilities renovations on time. Cahill Construction was responsible for kitchen, faculty/staff dining area and the food court of Oliver Hall. Overaa Construction was likewise responsible for the renovation to De La Salle Hall and Hagerty Lounge. College staff from the facilities department assisted in both these projects.

Thanks are due to the many faculty, staff and student ambassadors who met yesterday's larger-than-expected attendance for the Fall Preview Day. Many visitors told me that they were impressed by the organization of the day and the very welcoming spirit.

Members of the President's Club who gathered in the Brothers' garden for the 39th annual Thank You event were also appreciative of the College. More than 200 members were present, and although the evening was slightly chilly, there was a warm spirit evident of cordiality and commitment in the group. I have appended my remarks to them. The Board of Regents, at their on-campus meeting last week, discussed practical ways to increase alumni engagement and involvement in supporting Saint Mary's.

Coming very soon this month will be a Board of Trustees meeting, followed by a WASC visit during the last week of October. Much preparation has gone into these meetings. I am thankful to the faculty senate and a variety of committees who have addressed important issues, such as the Public Speaker Policy, the Core Curriculum Implementation process and the Campus of Difference workshops.

As we move through this very busy semester, I encourage each of you in your work and thank you for your spirited engagement in our mission.

In St. La Salle,

Brother Ronald Gallagher
