Soccer team cheering and waving a sign after winning WCC Championship

Saint Mary’s Men’s Soccer had another impressive season facing fierce opponents and achieving victory over most. Reaching the NCAA Tournament and advancing to the second round, the Gaels ultimately ended their season with an impressive 18-0-2 record. The Men’s Soccer team also dominated in the West Coast Conference for the second straight year with a 7-0 record, marking the first time any West Coast Conference team has ever achieved such a feat.

When it comes to playing college hoops, Saint Mary’s Men’s Basketball Team continued to show why they achieve high rankings, year after year. The College earned a solid reputation as a basketball powerhouse, and for the 2019-20 season, they started off ranked No. 20 by the Associated Press’ and the Coaches Poll’s Top 25. In fact, over the past decade, the Gaels have had the most successful collegiate basketball team in California, over the likes of Santa Clara, UC Berkeley, UCLA, Pepperdine, and USC.

Saint Mary’s Women’s Cross Country team showed their running prowess and skill as they competed at the NCAA West Regionals, breaking a number of program records during the meet last fall. They recorded their highest finish ever with several team members placing among top finishers and achieving personal bests. The ladies proved that they could ‘run like the wind’ and break records in true Gael style.

Saint Mary’s was proud to honor our scholar-athletes and acknowledge them for their academic achievement and success. Last year, 98 student-athletes were named for carrying a grade point average of 3.25 or higher as a sophomore, junior, or senior. "These Gaels represent Saint Mary's College at the highest level, both on and off the field, so putting aside some time to give them recognition is a fantastic occasion," said Mike Matoso, vice president for Athletics. The student-athletes and their respective sports included baseball, men’s basketball, men’s cross country, men’s golf, men’s soccer, women’s basketball, women’s cross country, women’s rowing, softball, women’s soccer, women’s tennis, and volleyball.
