Brother Camillus Student Award Recipients Announced!

The Institute for Latino and Latin American Studies (ILaLS) is pleased to announce the recipients of the first-ever Brother Camillus Chavez ILaLS Student Awards. The award is meant to provide financial support for students who are studying Latinx diasporas or Latin America. Brother Camillus has been a key presence on the campus and has shaped and influenced the lives of many generations of students. 

The recipients are:

Karina Gutierrez ’21, Ethnic Studies and Spanish and Latin Studies (SaLAS):Hispanic Linguistics and Politics minor

Nataly Berg ’21, Global and Regional Studies: Latin America

Maya Diaz-Villalta ’22, Anthropology and Dance

Galilea Silva ’21, Ethnic Studies and Spanish and Latin American Studies (SaLAS): Hispanic Cultural Studies 

Brianna Gonzalez ’23, Sociology and Spanish and Latin American Studies (SaLAS)

The students’ different projects and academic goals support the mission of the institute, which includes a community and scholarly interest related to Latinx communities in the United States and Latin America.

You are invited to participate in a virtual awards reception hosted by ILaLS on Wednesday, April 28, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Supervisor Cindy Chavez of the 2nd District in Santa Clara will be in attendance.  Register in advance for this meeting:
