Brother DeSales Perez Endowment to Benefit Collegiate Seminar

Saint Mary's College of California announces the Brother O. DeSales Perez, FSC, Endowment, established by Brother DeSales prior to his death in October. In DeSales' words, "the purpose of the endowment is to ensure that the Collegiate Seminar Program, the heart and soul of Saint Mary's College, continues to provide the best possible instruction to Saint Mary's students now and in the future."

Brother DeSales (1930-2003) was a much beloved Professor of Spanish for 40 years and served as both Chair of the Modern Languages Department and Director of Collegiate Seminar. He demonstrated his ongoing support of students not only through these administrative positions, but also in his daily life as he lived for many years in the residence halls with students. He directed the Collegiate Seminar Program for 17 years, and devoted much of his life to building this Great Books Program into its current position as the core academic program of Saint Mary's College.

This generous endowment, created from Perez family funds honoring his parents, Juan and Esperanza Perez, will enhance the program by providing annual funds for the continuing education and professional development of faculty who teach in the Collegiate Seminar Program. This endowment will also support student activities and reward student achievement.

This gift demonstrates Brother DeSales' love for the students and faculty of Saint Mary's College and his dream that the Collegiate Seminar Program will continue to thrive.

Gifts in the memory of Brother DeSales can be directed to the Brother O. DeSales Perez, FSC Endowment.
