Blake Cairney Awarded the Chase Adam Visionary of the Year Scholarship

Blake Cairney, who has been awarded the Chase Adam Visionary of the Year Scholarship, credits his late father, a successful businessman, for his continuous pursuit of higher education.

Cairney, who currently works as the Senior Vice President of lending operations at Sacramento Credit Union in Sacramento, California, is looking forward to using the scholarship award of $10,000, as well as continuing his educational journey through the Saint Mary’s Trans-Global Executive MBA Program (TGEMBA). "I am proud of what I have accomplished thus far in my life. I view this program as an opportunity to grow personally and professionally," said Cairney.

"I have been fortunate enough to have worked with organizations that have been supportive of my educational and professional goals," said Cairney. He is confident that the TGEMBA program will be a boon to his future.

"I believe life is about constantly working towards becoming a better version of myself. I believe this program will provide a rewarding and transformational experience that will benefit me personally and the organization I work for," said Cairney.

Cairney currently directs the activities of five business units focused on lending and marketing.  "I strive to maintain a very purposeful leadership style and manage by the simple value of always doing the right thing for the right reason. I was a public administration major in college… At that time of my life, I had not identified my career goals, and much of my focus was dedicated to college athletics. After I graduated and entered the workforce, I discovered the value of education, and I have been focused on personal and professional improvement ever since."

While working in the credit union world has been positive for Cairney, after 8 years of focus, he is ready for a change. "The TGEMBA Program’s focus on building sustainable and socially responsible organizations is very appealing to me. I work for a not-for-profit financial cooperative which I believe shares a similar philosophy of giving back to its members, employees, and community." He will be focusing expanding his knowledge in analytics, accounting, and supply chain management and hopes strengthen his current specialization knowledge in leadership, strategy, and finance. The global focus of the program, he hopes, will give him new perspectives from diverse cultures and industries. He intends to use this knowledge to network, as well as to Think Globally, Lead Responsibly.

Cairney has worked as a Mortgage Product Manager for SAFE Credit Union and as Vice President of Lending and Investment Services for American River HealthPro Credit Union in Rancho Cordova, California. He also served as assistant Vice President and Branch Manager for First Mortgage Corporation and as Owner and Operator of Retail Mortgage Banking for USFinancial Mortgage Corporation. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in public administration from San Diego State University and his Masters in General Management from Harvard Business School in Cambridge, MA.
