Building Relationships

Aumni Relations has been developing events designed to foster relationships between alumni and the College, and working to bring SMC to alumni through an aggressive chapter development program.

Those efforts were boosted by the more than 2,200 alums who completed the alumni survey that was e-mailed in January. Check out the story in this issue, and learn more online at The survey will help shape SMC’s strategic plan.

SMC spirit was high when more than 3,000 alumni, students, parents and friends gathered in January for Gaelfest, our Homecoming, coordinated by alumni board members Warren Parker, Drue Hulmer, Tony Perez and Rita Richcreek.

Chapter activity continues to grow. Alameda, Contra Costa, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Sacramento, Silicon Valley, San Diego and Solano chapters have had meetings of core volunteers who developed engaging chapter events over the past few months. Chapter engagement included a student/alumni service project in Alameda, more than 60 Gaels gathering in Walnut Creek to watch the men’s basketball team take on Gonzaga and a business networking social in Solano County.

Alumni can keep abreast of the latest news with the improved monthly SMC Update e-newsletter, and see pictures from recent events on the online community, Jerome. Jerome also offers networking, career services and job listings.

It is time for nominations for the Alumni Awards. Please pass on nominations to the alumni office at And remember Reunion Weekend, July 20–22.
