We have implemented a career management program called GaeLink to help you find part-time and full-time jobs, childcare jobs, internships.  Gaelink provides access to jobs posted specifically for SMC students and alumni, as well as access to national job postings, will allow you to create resumes, and upload resumes for specific jobs. 

To Access GaeLink and Search For Jobs:

  1. Go to GaeLink

  2. Enter the Gaelink user name and password emailed to you on the Gaelink login page

  3. If you did not recieve an email with your user name and password, please CLICK HERE and register for a new account. You will recieve an email after your registration has been accepted with your Gaelink user name and password.

  4. Click the [Jobs & Internships/GaeLink Jobs] tab

  5. Search for jobs or internships by choosing specific criteria (i.e. Full-Time, Part-Time, Internships etc.)

  6. Click on the job you are interested in and view the posting

  7. You can also search jobs by selecting the [Employers] tab

  8. Once the desired employer is selected, click on the [Available Positions] tab to view the jobs for that employer

Job Search Safety Tips: Be successful, savvy, and safe!

When making contact with employers, especially residential or "in-home" businesses, please take into consideration our safety tips:

  1. When going on that initial interview, bring a friend or tell a friend where you are going and when you will return if you have any qualms.

  2. Be aware of your surroundings ALWAYS.

  3. Trust your instincts: If a potential employer sounds odd or off-beat, check out his/her references!  If something doesn't seem right during the initial phone contact, find another job listing and tell the Career Center if you believe the job is sketchy.

  4. When calling about a job, never give out your personal information, like home address or home phone. Just stick to cell phone numbers.

Here are some good tips that a posting might be a SCAM:

  1. If the company asks you for your credit card or bank account numbers, payment in any form, or copies of personal documents – but you get nothing in writing.

  2. If the company asks you to provide your social security number by email.

  3. If you are offered money or funding prior to the start of the job.

  4. If you receive an unexpectedly large check or payment.

  5. If the posting appears to be from a reputable, familiar company yet, the domain in the contact's email address does not match the domain of the company For example, a posting from Google would only have an email adress @google.com. Another way to validate is to check the open positions on the company's website.

  6. If you look at the company's website, does it have an index that tells you what the site is about; or does it contain information only about the job you are interested in? Scammers often create quick, basic web pages that seem legitimate at first glance.

What if you are already involved in a SCAM?

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has given the following instructions to students or individuals who have responded to fraudulent postings:

  1. The student should immediately contact the local police. The police are responsible for conducting an investigation (regardless of whether the scam artist is local or in another state).

  2. If it is a situation where the student has sent money to a fraudulent employer:
    the student should contact their bank or credit card company immediately to close the account and dispute the charges.

  3. If the transaction occurred completely over the Internet, the student should file an incident report with the: http://www.cybercrime.gov/, or by calling the FTC at: 1-877-FTC-HELP (1-877-382-4357).
