Catholic Voice Profiles SMC Student's Research of Civil War Diary

The undergraduate research efforts of Saint Mary's senior and history major Deirdre Riley, who transcribed one of the diaries of Theodore Boyington, a Union soldier in the Civil War, is the focus of a Catholic Voice news article. In its latest edition, the newspaper of the Oakland Diocese covered the Civil War exhibit at the Hearst Art Gallery and ran a related feature on the 25-year old Oakland resident. The article notes how Riley's area of research was influenced by several Saint Mary's faculty, including history professors Carl Guarneri and Kathy Roper and politics professor Ron Ahnen, who is the great-great grandson of Civil War soldier Theodore Boyington.
