In its April 22, 2013 edition, the Catholic Voice reports on the visit of Brother Alvaro Rodriguez Echeverria, F.S.C., the superior general of the Christian Brothers, to Saint Mary's. The article "Saint Mary's to welcome Christian Brothers' leader" notes that Brother Alvaro will receive an honorary doctoral degree as the guest of honor at Saint Mary’s annual De La Salle Week Convocation in the College Chapel on Wednesday, April 24th. It also notes that he will participate in a panel discussion about the importance of lay partnerships in furthering the mission of the Christian Brothers on Tuesday, April 23rd.
The newspaper for the Oakland diocese also reported on the College's Great Bay Area Service Day for Schools, which was held last month. The article "Saint Mary's day of service project gives schools a lift" reported that the community service event, which was held on on March 16th, drew 800 volunteers who helped out at 21 schools across the Bay Area, including eight in the Diocese of Oakland. Volunteers contributed 3,000 hours of service working on a variety of projects including painting, landscaping and organizing classroom libraries.
