Catholic Voice Spotlights SMC's New College Completion Partnership with KIPP Foundation

Catholic Voice logoThe Catholic Voice highlights a new initiative recently launched by Saint Mary's and the KIPP Foundation (Knowledge Is Power Program) to promote college completion for low income students who are often the first in their families to go to college. KIPP is a national network of free, open enrollment, college-preparatory public charter schools with a track record of preparing students in underserved communities for success in college and in life.

The new initiative establishes an annual enrollment pipeline to the College, for up to seven students a year, primarily from KIPP Bay Area Schools. KIPP alumni attending Saint Mary’s are invited to participate in the College’s High Potential Program, where they can benefit from a variety of academic support initiatives.

The Voice article "Partnerships help students toward goal of graduation," features an interview with a graduate of KIPP San Jose Collegiate High School and now a first year Saint Mary's student Jesse Aguirre '18, who talks about his experience at SMC and participating in the HP Program.
