CBS This Morning interviewed Fr. Mike Russo about an 85 page Vatican document, called an Apostolic Exhortation, that outlines the direction Pope Francis believes the Catholic Church should be headed toward. Russo, a communication professor whose academic research includes the Vatican and the press, discussed the document, officially called "Evangeli Gaudium," or "The Joy of the Gospel."
Standing in front of the Saint Mary's Chapel lawn, Russo told CBS News the publication, which is a kind of mission statement for the pontiff, further illustrates the pope's compassion for those in poverty and offers a warning that we are in an age where there is a new idolatry of money. Russo said the document displays a papal perspective and emotional intelligence that is very much needed on the world's stage. Watch the report.
