One-on-One Sessions

We work with writers in hour-long advising sessions to address any aspect of the writing process. Call us at (925) 631-4684 to make an appointment, or stop by the Center in De La Salle Hall, next to Hagerty Lounge.

About our sessions One on one writing session

  • Our advisers are here to help you brainstorm topics, theses, or opinions; construct outlines; revise drafts; post-outline; and work on sentence-level grammar. All advisers are trained to work with students of all disciplines and students who are non-native English speakers.
  • Typically, the adviser and student sit side-by-side. Our philosophy of collaborative dialogue keeps the pen in the student's hand, ready to mark, revise, and take ownership of their own writing.
  • Sessions generally last for an hour, but they can run shorter or longer depending on the student's needs.

What to expect when you get to CWAC

  • When you come in, we will ask you to sign in. We will then introduce you to your adviser, and you will have a seat at one of the tables/couches in the Center to begin your session.

What to bring with you

  • We recommend bringing your assignment sheet/prompt, professor notes from previous drafts, texts, notes, and any writing you already have.
  • We can conduct sessions on laptops, too, though many students prefer to work from hard copies.
