Description:

The SMC Choirs will embody their gratitude to be singing together again in our winter concert "I Sing Because..."

We'll be joined by the Baroque Chamber Ensemble Magnificat to present two glorious choral-orchestral selections by J.S. Bach. Our performance will also include works by Palestrina, Monteverdi, Whitacre, Hugo Alfven, and African-American Spiritual aficianado the late Moses Hogan. Also featured is a poignant setting of Langston Hughes' To Sit and Dream by Rosaphayne Powell, and I Sing Because I'm Happy by Rollo Dilworth. We'll cut loose on Beach Boys and Alanis Morrisette tunes, and will include holiday favorites including a carol sing-along.

THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO:

Reserve a ticket online, and your name will be on the will call list.

We encourage online reservations due to limited capacity. However, some seats MAY be available at the door up to 45 minutes before the show. For contact tracing, we'll also ask for your email if you do not have a reservation ahead of time.

Vaccinations: To keep everyone as safe as possible, we require all guests/visitors/patrons who are not SMC faculty, staff, students or Brothers ages 12 and up to show proof of vaccination (defined as two weeks after your final shot) and a photo ID at every performance they attend. Patrons can show either paper or electronic documentation (digital vaccination record or photo of vaccination card).  California residents may obtain a digital vaccine record at http://MyVaccineRecord.cdph.ca.gov.

  • If you plan to attend a performance with a child under the age of 12 that is not vaccinated, please call the Box Office at (925) 631-4670 to discuss seating and safety options.

  • Guests under age 12, those who need a reasonable accommodation for medical reasons, or customers who are unvaccinated due to sincerely held religious beliefs must provide proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken no more than 72 hours prior to entering the facility.

Masks: All patrons, regardless of vaccination status, are required to wear a mask at all times with the exception of children under the age of two and medical exemptions. Even the singers will all be using singers' masks so you can hear them clearly while also being protected. Note: An approved face covering means one that is well-fitted to an individual and covers the nose and mouth especially while talking. A face covering does not include a scarf, ski mask, balaclava, bandana, turtleneck, collar, single layer fabric, or any mask that has an unfiltered one-way exhaust. Audience  members who fail to follow the Front of House safety protocols will be asked to put on a mask or promptly leave the performance venue. Disposable masks will be available to patrons who need a mask to attend the event.

Parking is $1 for 2 hours at the Visitor's Parking Lots. There is a lot to the left of the entrance gate.

Run Time: The concert is expected to be approximately 2 hours.

Please arrive at least 20 minutes early because it's going to take a little longer to admit guests due to Covid regulations.

Late seating will have to wait for the end of the piece before being seated quickly in the back. As a courtesy to the singers, we encourage everyone to stay for the whole show and arrive early.

We will have paper programs due to the limited wifi in the Chapel.
