Christmas Greeting From President Richard Plumb and Mary Plumb

Dear Members of the Saint Mary’s Community,

The Christmas season is here, and my family and I would like to wish you all Happy Holidays. My wife, Mary, and I are especially grateful for the warm welcome we've received, and we are proud to be part of the Saint Mary's community. We have loved living with students this fall on campus and sharing their community.

Early last summer, it seemed that the fall term might provide a return to a pre-pandemic form of educational and residential life at Saint Mary’s. Alas, the spread of the Delta variant required us to continue to protect ourselves and our community through diligent and careful safety practices. I am so grateful for the extraordinary efforts our students, faculty, and staff members made to continue building an extraordinary educational community in the face of so many pandemic-related challenges. The resiliency and resolve you all demonstrated this fall reminded me that in the classroom, residence hall, on the court, or in the field, we are buoyed up by our community and our liberal arts, Catholic, and Lasallian values.

I hope you have many opportunities to spread cheer and serve others, both within our community and beyond, during this special season. I’d also like to congratulate our women’s and men’s sports teams for their play and spirit and to commend the students, staff, and faculty members who have presented such wonderful celebrations during Latinx Heritage Month and Native American Heritage Month. Next year promises more exciting events, such as an in-person Jan Term, Black History Month, Women’s History Month, and more.

We hope you have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year. May peace, love, and prosperity follow you always.

Best regards,

Richard Plumb, PhD
