Coaching Changes in Women's Sports

At press time, the women's basketball program was in transition. Athletic Director Mark Orr announced in June that sixth-year head coach Michelle Jacoby would not return in 2006-07. Orr said he would initiate a national search for a new head coach.

That news came shortly after two new assistant coaches, including former Gael standout Tracy (Morris) Johnston '00, joined the program. Johnston and Tony Giannotti filled vacancies created when Jacoby's three former assistant coaches resigned in March.

Orr announced in July that Brandon Badgley, women's lacrosse head coach for the past three years, would not return for the 2006-07 season. The College has initiated a national search for his successor.

In 2004, Saint Mary's adopted a new athletics strategic plan that called for increasing the resources for all Division I athletic programs so that they can compete more effectively for conference championships. "I look forward to the women's lacrosse program being part of the overall resurgence of athletic success at Saint Mary's College," Orr said.
