About the Collections

The College Archives is dedicated to collecting, preserving, and making available documents of all types pertaining to the history of the College from its origins in San Francisco in the 1860s, through its move to Oakland in 1889 and to Moraga in the 1920s and up to the present. Documents deal with sports history, notable alumni and faculty, curriculum and College organization. Included are thousands of photographs. 

Administrative Organization of Collections

The Archives is currently in the process of reorganizing Archives documents from a topical flat file to a hierarchical schema based on traditional Archives organizational principles, with the following main divisions:

  • Administration (e.g. President's Office)
  • Schools (e.g. School of Liberal Arts)
  • College-wide Committees (e.g. Academic Senate)
  • College-wide Departments (e.g. Library)
  • Related Organizations (e.g. Alumni Association)
  • Centers and Cross-Disciplinary Units (e.g. Center for Fiduciary Capitalism)
  • Athletics (e.g. Intramural Sports)
  • Alumni Individuals
  • Faculty and Staff Individuals
  • College Publications (e.g. Collegian)

Documents are also referenced in relation to relevant functions of the College, including the following:
