SMC Redwoods

UPDATE August, 2020: Please read regarding current CAPS services during COVID-19

Dear SMC Students,

During August, 2020, we will be working remotely with limited business hours: M-F 9 am - 5 pm, closed 12-1 for lunch.

We will regularly check messages left on our main line--925-631-4364 as well as emails sent to caps4364@stmarys-ca.edu -- during those hours. You can expect a response within 24 hours. We will continue to support students through the following process listed below:

For students who have an ongoing appointment scheduled:  Scheduled appointments remain in place and will be provided through remote therapy via phone or Zoom unless the student chooses to end their treatment. If you decide that you would prefer to work with a therapist outside of CAPS, we will help you determine the best plan for treatment and to establish consistent, ongoing care.

For students who are physically out of state:  At this time, California law is allowing only licensed clinicians to provide therapy to some out of state clients. Your therapist will talk with you about how to proceed with your treatment, depending on your current location and needs.

Call-In Hours:

  • In lieu of drop in hours, we are offering “Call In Hours.”  If you are a new or an existing client and would like to speak to a clinician the same day for support or for a non-urgent matter call (925) 631-4364 or email caps4364@stmarys-ca.edu and leave a message during our "Call In Hours": M-F 1:00 - 3:00 pm.  Please leave your name and phone number and indicate that you are requesting a Call In appointment. A therapist will call you back and you will be offered a 20-25 minute phone consultation. Calls will be returned in the order in which they were received. Clinicians will assess your needs, provide support, and work with you on problem solving the issue at hand.  Clinicians will work with you to determine if any phone follow up meetings and/or referral to a clinician in your community  is needed.

Psychiatric services will no longer be offered at CAPS.  We encourage you to be in contact with your primary care physician or a psychiatrist in the community for medication needs. Please let us know if you would like a referral.

All students who have a remote therapy or “Call In” appointment will be asked to review and, if possible, sign a Teletherapy Consent Form. Your clinician will email you this form before or at the beginning of your phone or Zoom appointment. Please be prepared to receive a call from a blocked number at your appointment time or during Call In hours.

Most importantly, take care of yourselves and each other. We are here to support you!
