The recent graduates of Cristo Rey San Jose Jesuit High School, along with their parents and family members, visited Saint Mary’s on Thursday, June 14 for a special reception that included a campus tour, an overview of the student services and welcoming remarks from Donahue and Kasimatis.

The ten students, who have committed to start at SMC in fall 2018, are beneficiaries of the recently launched Cristo Rey San Jose Annual Scholarship, which provides approximately $20,000 per student for each of their four years, covering tuition, housing, and expenses not covered by the College’s financial aid package. The scholarship is intended to greatly reduce the students’ financial concerns and enables them to take advantage of the numerous activities, internships, and community-building opportunities offered on campus.

The scholarship is the result of the generous support from two former chairs of Saint Mary’s Board of Trustees who partnered to establish the Cristo Rey San Jose Annual Scholarship: B.J. Cassin, honorary alumnus, and his wife Bebe, and Nick ’63 and JoAnne Moore committed a combined $800,000 to support graduates of Cristo Rey San Jose High School who attend Saint Mary’s.

The inaugural class of Cristo Rey San Jose Annual Scholarship recipients who will attend Saint Mary’s includes Abel Cuevas, Jennifer Cortez, Isabel Martinez, Adrian Mireles Mata, Ben Nguyen, Sojey Olmedo, Diego Reece, Alexis Trevino, Jacqueline Torres and Luciana Zuniga.

In addition to remarks from SMC’s president and provost, the students met with Vice President for Advancement Lisa Moore, and Deans of Admissions and Financial Aid Angelica Moore, and Wilbert Lleses, who congratulated them on their academic achievements and status as new Gaels.
