Give your ears and your frayed nerves a Sunday afternoon treat. Performing Arts Department faculty will present a jazz and classical music recital on October 8 at 3 p.m. It will take place in the SMC Chapel. Musicians will include both familiar faces and some of the department’s new instructors.

The program will feature:

- a short sonata by Brahms, played by violinist Joyce Lee and pianist Sharon Kim.

- a masterful trio for keyboard, violin and cello by J. S. Bach, performed by Sharon Kim and guests.

- beautiful Baroque lute music by Weiss, played on classical guitar by Mori Achen.

- Autumn Leaves, plus an arrangement of Fragile by Sting, executed with aplomb by jazz guitarist Mike Williams.

- soprano Kelly Burge singing a lighthearted aria by Gounod.

- Bach’s great Chaconne in D Minor, performed by pianist Lino Rivera. Memorizing this work is a feat in and of itself, yet its technical challenges are overshadowed by its profundity. 150 years after it was composed Johannes Brahms described the Chaconne as “the greatest musical masterpiece ever created.”

This concert promises to be memorable, you will love it.  Admission is FREE, the quality of the music priceless.
