First-Year Students: Celebrate Your Major and Enjoy a Festive Lunch!

First-year students, join in the fun as you declare your major at Saint Mary’s first Major Declaration Festival on Wednesday, March 16, from 12 to 2 p.m., on the De La Salle Lawn. You’ll have the chance to celebrate with your friends as the Advising Office and New Student and Family Programs bring you food trucks, a DJ, and more—including a FREE lunch! Food trucks include Hella Mas and Cocina Danzon.

“This is the inaugural Major Declaration Festival!” announced Jennifer Herzog, executive director of the SMC Experience. “First-year students recently officially declared their major, and this is a celebration of that milestone. The festival will provide an opportunity for academic programs to welcome their new scholars in true SMC fashion with food trucks and music! Students will have the chance to mix and mingle with professors, program chairs/directors, and peer mentors in an informal fashion.”

First-year students who attend and have a major declared (even undecided) will be put into a raffle for $100 bookstore vouchers.

SMC hopes to start a tradition of having this event honor students’ first-year experience—with advisors, RAs/RDs, coaches, and peer mentors—while also introducing students to faculty and student leaders in their new majors/minors. The Student Success team will also be on hand to help students who need a bit more support declaring their major.
