Faculty Development Fund Grants
Saint Mary's College of California recognizes that intellectual growth and scholarly activity are closely related both to each other and to teaching effectiveness. Faculty scholarship is encouraged and supported through awards that fund scholarly interests and pursuits. The Faculty Development Fund Committee administers the awards and is composed of the Director of Faculty Development and one faculty member from each school appointed by the respective dean. Scholarly activity and intellectual growth are broadly defined and supported as described here.
Any institutional grants that are received for travel of faculty (and any accompanying students) outside of the United States, must be accompanied by a completed Travel Risk Assessment form - found athttp://smcca-sa.terradotta.com/index.cfm?FuseAction=Abroad.ViewLink&Link_ID=910142C5-5056-BA1F-71D9314C10BA2C53
Annual Faculty Awards
Saint Mary’s College has an outstanding hard-working faculty. At the suggestion of Provost Beth Dobkin, the Committee on Teaching and Learning has developed four annual Faculty Awards. Three awards recognize tenured faculty members for their excellence in three major areas (Teaching Excellence, Researcher-Scholar, and Service) and complement the current Professor of the Year Award. The fourth award recognizes a new outstanding pre-tenured track faculty member, and is an Early Career Award. Each of these awards has a stipend of $ 5,000. The nomination and evaluation process are explained in detail on the linked page.
Educational Technology Grants (ETG)
The Faculty Technology Group (FTG) is dedicated to advancing the use of technology in teaching, learning, research, and scholarship by exploring new technologies, disseminating information and supporting the work of colleagues. For more information please go to the ETG website. http://www.facultytechnology.org/index.php.grants
Alumni -Faculty Fellowships
The details below can also be found here.
The Alumni Association will once again make awards to deserving faculty members. The awards will be announced by early May. Recipients will be designated “Alumni-Faculty Fellows for 2013.”
The purpose of the grants is to assist the College in meeting its educational goal of being an outstanding Catholic, Lasallian and Liberal Arts institution of higher learning through faculty development. The Alumni Association also seeks to foster a closer relationship between its members and the College faculty through these annual grants.
All full-time faculty members who taught in the fall, including past recipients, are invited to apply. Recent recipients are asked to wait two years before they re-apply. A committee composed of faculty and alumni will choose the recipients.
Applicants may apply for grant monies in the range of $ 4000 to $4500. The review committee will select recipients based on the merits of the proposals and will award grants up to the total available funds.
Award recipients are expected to attend the Annual Alumni Association Board of Directors year-end reception. You will be introduced to the gathering, and perhaps asked for a short presentation of your project. If a project results in a publication or conference paper, the applicant will acknowledge the support of the Saint Mary’s College Alumni-Faculty Fellowship Fund. A pdf document and application form are at the bottom of this page.
Important Tax Notice: IRS policy requires that the grants be taxed by the College as regular income. For that reason, applicants should be aware that usable grant monies would be the amount of the grant, less the individual’s normal payroll deductions.
APPLICATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED IN THE ALUMNI OFFICE BY NOON, April 4, 2016. THE RECIPIENTS OF THE GRANTS WILL BE ANNOUNCED BY EARLY MAY.
If you have any questions concerning the grants, please call the Alumni Office at ext. 4200.
