Reconciliations and Desires

Hossein Khosrowjah will explore the complexity and importance of “cultural translation” in the contemporary political climate. His talk will use Peter Freund’s IRAN|USA exhibition as a springboard for investigating the role of translation and mistranslation in defining the cultural Other.

Hossein Khosrowjah is a senior adjunct professor of visual studies at the California College of the Arts. His essays and reviews on a broad range of topics, from film to exilic autobiography to the history of American higher education, have been published in film, cultural, and area studies journals. His book, The Singular Cinema of Abbas Kiarostami, is forthcoming from I.B. Tuaris Press.
