Gaels Upset Army 31-27; Will Face Navy in Round of Eight

April 20, 2007—State College, PA, With a try scored in the last four minutes of the game, the Saint Mary’s Men’s Rugby team pulled off a come-from-behind upset of the #5 seed Army Black Knights at Penn State in a Friday night thriller.

Fifth-year senior Volney Rouse ’07 dominated at the flyhalf position to keep the Gaels alive, including touching down the winning try. Conor Coyne '08, playing at hooker, contributed a solid game as well.  

The Gaels move on to the USA Rugby Round of Eight, to be held on Saturday April 21, also at Penn State. They will face another military academy, this time the Midshipmen of Navy, kicking off at 6:00 p.m.
