Fair Market Value (FMV)
As of January 1, 2018, updates to the tax law may impact the deductibility of your future contributions at athletics. It is our understanding that this new legislation amends Section 170(I) of the Internal Revenue Code to eliminate any deduction for contributions made in exchange for seating rights at collegiate athletic stadium events.
While there is still uncertainty surrounding the legislation, contributions to Saint Mary’s College Athletics that provide donors with access to season tickets will no longer be deductible.
Following an intense four months of construction over the summer, the initial phase of the Student Athlete Performance Complex was completed on schedule in Fall 2018. The work involved in Phase One primarily focused on McKeon Pavilion, which received major upgrades to the 40-year old structure. Gael supporters now entering McKeon Pavilion will notice dramatic differences, including the installation of a new state-of-the-art Daktronics video board, spanning 48-feet wide on the east side of the building. A new Daktronics sound-system was installed to help enhance the sound quality inside the pavilion, including the lobby and restrooms. A new lighting system, floor and branding wrapped up in the fall. A popular addition to the pavilion installed over the summer is a robust wi-fi system, free for fans to use during events.
The centerpiece of the Athletics & Recreation Corridor (ARC) is the 52,000-square-foot Joseph L. Alioto Recreation Center, named for the 1937 Saint Mary's alumnus who served as mayor of San Francisco from 1968 to 1976. The Corridor, located on the west side of campus, includes a new 1,500-seat baseball park, aquatics center and an outdoor plaza linking the new site to the Korth Tennis Complex and Cottrell Softball Field. Since opening, the response has been overwhelmingly positive! In our first full year, we had 2,664 active members, including undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty/staff who came to the Alioto Recreation Center 157,000 times. Check out this video to see what donor support has made possible.
