The Financial Aid Application Process


Complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) prior to the start of your academic program (Saint Mary's FAFSA school code is 001302)

After completing FAFSA to be eligible for aid via the Federal Graduate Loan go here and complete:

  • Entrance Counseling for Federal Graduate Loan
  • MPN for Federal Graduate Loan

After completing FAFSA to be eligible for additional aid via the Federal Graduate PLUS Loan go here and complete:

  • Application for Federal Graduate PLUS Loan
  • MPN for Federal Graduate PLUS Loan

Note: Eligibity of loans above is based on FAFSA completion and enrollment in a degree program at least half time status. Credential only students not eligible.

Private Education Loans are alternative options for aid:

  • Credit based loans through private lending institutions that can be applied for at elmselect.com
  • Do not require a FAFSA and lender may offer a loan for students enrolled less than half time
  • Not eligible for Public Service Loan Forgiveness or other federal student loan features

  • Half time status is defined as 4 units per quarter
  • Full-time status is defined as 8 units per quarter

Kalmanovitz School of Education

Graduate Students:

  • Half-time is defined as 3 units in Summer, 5 units in Fall and Spring semesterss
  • Full-time is defined as 9 units in Summer, Fall and Spring semesters

Credential Only Students are considered undergraduate students per federal regulations for Title IV financial aid funding:

  • HHalf-time is defined as 3 units in Summer, 6 units in Fall and Spring semesters
  • Full-time is defined as 12 units in in Summer, Fall and Spring semesters

Masters in Kinesiology

  • Half-time is defined as 3 units in Summer, 5 units in Fall and Spring semesters
  • Full-time is defined as 6 units in Summer, 9 units in Fall, and Spring semesters

Masters of Fine Arts

  • Half-time is defined as 3 units in Summer, 5 units in Fall and Spring semesters
  • Full-time is defined as 9 units in Summer, Fall and Spring semesters

Masters in Leadership

  • Half time status is defined as 4 units per quarter
  • Full-time status is defined as 8 units per quarter

PSM in Biotechnology              

  • Half-time is defined as 3 units in Summer, 5 units in Fall and Spring semesters.
  • Full-time is defined as 6 units in Summer, 9 units in Fall, and Spring semesters.
