Applicants interested in applying for the MA Kinesiology Leadership Scholarship for in-coming students should submit their application materials by the priority deadline.

Admissions Criteria

Undergraduate Degree: All applicants to the Master of Arts Program in Kinesiology must have an earned Bachelor’s degree with a minimum overall grade point average of 2.8 on a 4.0 scale.

GPA Exemption Petition: If your cumulative undergraduate GPA is below 2.8, you are still welcome to apply but you are required to submit a petition for an exemption from the minimum GPA requirement. The GPA Exemption Petition is your opportunity to share relevant information about past academic or personal circumstances to provide context for your past academic performance, and to share evidence of your ability to succeed in an academically rigorous graduate program. 

Kinesiology Major and/or Work Experience: Students should demonstrate educational and/or professional experiences or aspirations that align with the program goals and mission. 

Application Checklist

  1. Online Application
  2. Transcripts: Unofficial transcripts are accepted during the application process, but official transcripts will be needed once accepted. 
    • Degree in Progress: If you have not yet finished your degree at the time of application, you will still need to upload your in-progress unofficial transcript via the online application. However you do not need to send your official (in-progress) transcript until after your degree is conferred and the degree and award date are included on the transcript.

    • Official Electronic Transcripts: Digital transcripts can be sent by a verified service to (Please note: this email is for transcripts only, not general correspondence.)

  3. GPA Exemption Petition: If your undergraduate GPA is below 2.8, please submit a 600-700 word statement that includes relevant information about past academic or personal circumstances, and evidence of your ability to succeed in an academically rigorous graduate program. You may also include additional transcripts in your application to support your exemption petition, if applicable.

  4. Personal Statement: Please respond to each of the following questions in 2-3 succinct paragraphs for each question. Submit a single, double-spaced document using 12pt font and headings to separate each answer.  

    • How will the MA Kinesiology program at Saint Mary’s College support both your short-term and long-term professional and personal goals? In other words, how does this program suit your specific interests and objectives?

    • How do you see yourself contributing to the MA Kinesiology program and/or to the Saint Mary’s community in general?

    • How have your academic, professional, and/or personal experiences prepared you to be successful in a graduate program?

    • What aspect(s) of kinesiology are you most interested in studying?

  5. Two (2) Letters of Recommendation: Recommendations should support your application to the program and specifically address your academic and professional preparation. At least one of the letters should reference your academic abilities, while the other one or two should reference your potential for professional growth in the field of kinesiology and/or the contributions you would bring to the classroom. Please note: If you completed (or will complete) your bachelor’s degree within the last 2 years, at least one letter of recommendation is required from a faculty member who can speak to your academic abilities.

  6. Current Résumé: Please be sure to include your educational background and any work experience in Kinesiology or a related field.

  7. Non-refundable application fee ($50)

Please note that the Master of Arts in Kinesiology Program does not require applicants to submit Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores.
