The COVID-19 Pandemic has brought a new sense of responsibility for working remotely. It has also accentuated how insecure, inequitable, and uncertain work can be for millions who are doing precarious work. The social unrest and rising critical consciousness have made people reevaluate the meaning of work, leading to new phenomena such as the “great resignation” and employee activism.
Companies today also have a growing awareness of all areas of responsibility, from creating a workplace culture that values collaborative conversations inspired by social movements like #metoo and #blacklivesmatter, to serving the local community, and to leading the sustainability transition. Disruptive technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and blockchain are fundamentally shifting the basis of social relations, trust and the social control of core institutions. The growing need to balance the expectations of diverse stakeholders have led companies to reimagine their business models, adopt novel approaches to accounting and finance, and experiment radically new ways of managing people and resources.
Neither practitioners nor academics can address these societal grand challenges alone. It is more imperative than ever for the two communities to engage in real dialogues and learn from each other. The EDBA students at Saint Mary’s are practitioner-scholars who appreciate the power of bringing industry and academia together to generate and disseminate knowledge that is both rigorous and relevant, and to envision a renewed purpose and sustainable strategies for businesses to make positive and long-lasting social impacts.
The Summit will include both academic paper presentation sessions as well as industry keynote speeches and industry panels. We invite both practitioner presentations and scholarly articles that address, but are not limited to, the following questions:

Saint Mary's, a top private university on the west coast, is a stunningly beautiful campus just 23 miles east of San Francisco distinguished by its white walls and red tile roofs of its Spanish style renaissance California mission-style architecture, and surrounded by grass-covered hills that are sometimes crowned with fog blown in from the Pacific.
At Saint Mary's, the School of Economics and Business Administration (SEBA) is a selective, comprehensive school that engages the spirit and the intellect with exceptional academics in the heart of Silicon Valley. An education at SEBA changes lives and inspires the desire to transform society by focusing on ethical business practices.
