GUIDE Workshop

Gaels Uniting for Inclusion & Diversity through Education

What is GUIDE?

GUIDE Gaels Uniting for Inclusion and Diversity through Education – is SMC’s new workshop that replaces A Campus of Difference. The program title and acronym symbolize our belief that we have the capacity to teach and learn from each other; to guide and be guided toward a deeper understanding of and respect for our intersecting differences and similarities. It also represents our conviction that shared intention combined with collective action will guide our College on the journey toward a respectful, inclusive, and safe environment for all members of our campus community.

The GUIDE Workshop is designed to build community among faculty and staff; to create space for relevant conversations about what it means to be a diverse, inclusive community; and to explore how each of us can contribute to that end. This workshop is required for all faculty and staff at least once every three years.

About the Program

This is a highly interactive day with lots of time to talk with other faculty and staff from across campus that you probably don't know. You will also come away with resource materials for future reference!

The workshop is held on campus and runs from 9 AM–2:30 PM. We request that you arrive by 8:45 AM. Morning snacks and lunch are provided. There is always a vegetarian lunch option, but please indicate any other special dietary requests when you sign up. Remember, this is a commitment that requires your presence for the entire time, which is critical to the program's success. The dates for the current term are (TBD):

After the Program

There may also be periodic follow-up activities to the GUIDE workshops; the titles and dates of these events are sent out by email to the faculty and staff list-serves.
