Announcement of the formation of a new subcommittee: Que(e)ries: Diverse Genders and Sexualities Action Subcommittee!
The formation of this committee arose through the hard work, labor, and collaboration between faculty, staff, and students over the past several years. Chairs for the 2021 - 2022 academic year are Dr. Anna Corwin, Assistant Professor of Anthropology, and Dr. Mike Hoffshire, Director of Student Engagement & Academic Success.
Every June, we reflect on the significant progress we’ve made towards equality for LGBTQ+ Americans. A pivotal moment in that journey was in 1969, when trans women of color, Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera, among many others, took a stand against police violence and harassment during the Stonewall rebellion. Fifty-two years later, much progress has been made—but the same struggle against systemic discrimination and police violence remains. You can learn more about Pride month through the Library of Congress.
In celebration of Pride Month and the formal creation of our subcommittee, we invite all members who identify within these communities to participate in our first virtual mixer to be held virtually on June 23, 2021, from 4 - 5 pm. This gathering will not be recorded. Please RSVP.
