Based on the book Playing the Enemy: Nelson Mandela and the Game That Made a Nation, the film Invictus reveals the dramatic events surrounding the 1995 Rugby World Cup, hosted by South Africa in the immediate aftermath of apartheid. Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon won Academy Awards for their performances as South African President Nelson Mandela and François Pienaar, captain of the South Africa rugby union team.
