Jim Sciuto appointed to interim role of AVP and Dean of Students
Dear Saint Mary’s Community,
With the unique yet circuitous start to Jan Term, I cannot thank enough those who dedicated their time to helping keep the Saint Mary’s Community healthy at the start of the January Term. The Division of Student Life is committed to supporting and recognizing the importance of student success and well-being, which continues to guide us in integrated learning experiences.
Dr. Evette Castillo Clark began her appointment as Associate Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion on January 1st. I am excited to continue our partnership supporting the college’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. Evette will continue to serve as the Chair of the Bias Incident Response Team and as a Title IX Deputy Coordinator until the Associate Dean of Students and Director for the Office of Community Life, Student Rights, and Responsibilities is hired.
In the interim, Associate Vice President for Student Engagement, Jim Sciuto, will assume the role of AVP and Dean of Students through the spring term. In addition to joining the Provost’s Council, serving as a divisional representative of various college committees, and providing direct oversight for Community Life, he will continue to support his current unit, including Campus Housing, Residential Experience, Student Involvement & Leadership, and Campus Recreation. Jim graduated from Saint Mary’s in 2000 and completed a Master’s in Organization & Leadership (USF, 2009). He is currently enrolled in the Educational Leadership doctoral program here at Saint Mary’s. Jim brings over 20 years of campus experience, strengthening the student experience and increasing affinity by leading a student-centered department. I am excited to have Jim in this role as we continue to identify appropriate organizational structures that enhance the student experience.
We know that SMC faculty and staff continue to diligently work to support student success and want to affirm that Student Life Resources are available to assist with basic needs for students and promote wellness.
