Major Requirements

Within the JCL major there are different concentrations. Our interdisciplinary program allows students to choose a major or concentration in more than one area of study. Please refer to the course outlines below.

JCL General

This major will meet many of the Core requirements for the College, making it ideal for double majors or minors. Please see a JCL advisor to discuss the range of double majors.

Teacher's For Tomorrow (TFT)

Multiple Subject Teacher Education (MSTE)

Students can earn their Bachelor of Arts and MSTE credential in 4 years to teach in grades K-8.

Single Subject Teacher Education, MINOR (SSTE)

The Single Subject Teacher Education Minor 4+1 prepares students to become expert teachers in their chosen subject. They can earn their B.A. or B.S. at the end of 4 years in addition to completing their SSTE credential at the end of their 5th year.

Education Specialist Teacher Education (SPED)

If you have a calling for teaching children with disabilities, this program will prepare you with the knowledge and skills necessary for a successful and rewarding career teaching students with:

  • Autism spectrum disorder
  • Specific learning disabilities.
  • Emotional disturbances
  • Mild-to-moderate intellectual disabilities
  • Traumatic brain injury
  • Other health impairments (including ADD and ADHD)

Students earn their Bachelor of Arts and complete their preliminary Education specialist Credential at the end of four years.

JCL and Leadership for Social Justice (JCL and L4+1)

This pathway is designed for students interested in practicing leadership for social change in fields such as non-profit, community organizing, law, or public service. Students have the opportunity to earn their M.A. in Leadership in an additional year.
