The Justice, Community and Leadership (JCL) Program is proud to announce the McFarland
Endowed Scholarship for a current JCL student. Students selected this spring will be eligible for a $3500 scholarship next academic year, and subsequent years until graduation.
This scholarship is available to students who meet the following criteria:
Declared JCL major or minor (incoming or current)
In good academic standing
Have demonstrated financial need
First generation student and/or a student at SMC who holds a historically marginalized identity (e.g. Black, Indigenous, person of color, LGTBQIA+, person with disability, DACA/undocumented student), are encouraged to apply. Students who are already a part of or interested in contributing to a social justice movement are also encouraged to apply.
Application
1. Write a double-spaced 600-1000 word statement detailing how you meet the specific scholarship criteria and how you are already -- or will actively seek to be --involved in justice initiatives to combat structural oppression (such as, racism, sexism, homo/transphobia, climate change, the school-to-prison pipeline, nativism, ableism, etc.)
In this statement, include a description as to why your involvement is important to you and how the scholarship will support your future aspirations.
