How do I apply?

Admission requirements:

The Master of Arts in Teaching program requires the following for admission:

  • A California teaching credential in Multiple Subject, Single Subject, or Special Education, earned in 2003 or later. Out-of-state credentials must be converted to a California credential (see State of California Commission on Teacher Credentialing requirements).
  • You are not required to hold a teaching position in order to complete the MAT
  • All students who apply by the Priority Deadline (March 1) are considered for the John Dewey Admissions scholarship


To apply:

  • If you earned your credential at Saint Mary’s College, please complete a Pre-Enrollment Form, which can be filled in online .
  • If your credential was not earned at Saint Mary’s College, please click "Apply Now" above, or access the online application here.


Needed for your application:

  • Transcripts from all colleges/universities attended. Please mail official transcripts to KSOE, PMB 4350, Moraga, CA 94575-4350 
  • Three letters of recommendation from professionals who can evaluate your potential to carry out graduate work
  • You will complete a Personal Statement (up to 750 words) describing your goals for graduate school
  • If your credential is not from Saint Mary's College, you will be contacted for an interview (by phone or in person) with the Program Director.
