With a Mild-to-Moderate Education Specialist Preliminary Credential  you'll be qualified to teach and provide special education services in any elementary, middle school, or high school (K-12).

This credential will authorize you to teach and provide services to students with learning disabilities, mild-to-moderate intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbances, autism spectrum disorder, traumatic brain injury, and other health impairments (including ADD and ADHD) in the following environments:

  • Resource or learning centers
  • Special education settings
  • General education settings
  • Special schools
  • Home/hospital settings
  • State hospitals
  • Development centers
  • Correctional facilities
  • Non-public schools and agencies
  • Self-contained classrooms

Authorization to conduct assessments

With this credential, you can also conduct educational assessments to:

  • Determine eligibility for special education services 
  • The credential also authorizes the holder to conduct assessments related to student’s access to academic core curriculum and progress towards meeting instructional goals
