Distinguished Speaker Series: Graduate Academic Units Program

 

Graduate academic semester units are offered at a discounted rate of $195 per unit (3 units at $585 per course). The cost for units and official transcript is not included in the Distinguished Speaker Series (DSS) registration fee of $275 and is the responsibility of the participant.

Application deadline for academic credit course(s) is November 18, 2017. This is the second DSS seminar.

Course drop date is January 15, 2018. You are financially responsible if you do not drop by January 15, 2018.

EDTL 600: Exploring Teaching and Learning Leadership

Learning community members will begin investigating and transforming their beliefs about teaching and learning. Current best practices will be shared to increase participants' competence in planning, designing and delivering instruction to all students. Participants will demonstrate subject matter knowledge, based on content standards and frameworks.

 EDTL 600 (credit requirements)

  • Attend 6 Seminars including participation in afternoon peer group
  • One excused absence is allowed with attendance to an alternate professional development workshop and a make-up reflection form must be completed and turned in to course facilitator by May 12, 2018
  • Complete all written assignments by May 12, 2018
  • This course is 3 graduate semester units @ $195/unit

 

EDTL 610: Connecting Teaching and Learning Practices

Participants will apply concepts of learning, teaching and reflection, both independently and collaboratively. Learners will apply, document and demonstrate their learning between sessions through participation in Learning Community sessions. The focus will be on the California Standards for the Teaching Profession. Students will develop lessons which are integrated, collaborative and process oriented.

This course requires 3 additional learning community sessions in the spring.

 EDTL 610 (credit requirements)

  • Must be enrolled or have taken EDTL 600
  • Attend 6 Seminars including participation in afternoon peer group
  • One excused absence is allowed with attendance to an alternate professional development workshop and a make-up reflection form must be completed and turned in to course facilitator by May 12, 2018
  • Attend 3 additional Learning Community sessions in the Spring on St. Mary’s Campus
  • Complete all written assignments by May 12, 2018
  • This course is 3 graduate semester units @ $195/unit

EDTL 700: Developing Teaching and Learning Practices

Learning community members will further examine teaching and learning practices. The development of individual learning plans using an inquiry-based model will guide participants toward demonstrating continued professional growth.

 EDTL 700 (credit requirements)

  • Must be enrolled or have taken EDTL 600
  • Attend 6 Seminars including participation in afternoon peer group
  • One excused absence is allowed with attendance to an alternate professional development workshop and a make-up reflection form must be completed and turned in to course facilitator by May 12, 2018
  • Complete all written assignments by May 12, 2018
  • This course is 3 graduate semester units @ $195/unit

 

EDTL 710: Investigating Reflective Learning

Participants continue to apply concepts of learning, teaching and reflection, both independently and collaboratively.   • Attend 3 additional Learning Community sessions in the Spring on St. Mary’s Campus
  • Complete all written assignments by May 12, 2018
