Earn Academic Credit for your Induction Program  

Personalized professional development to meet individual teacher needs

The following four courses (12 units) fulfill the Foundational Coursework of the Master of Arts in Teaching Leadership program. Novice teachers who have completed these 12 units are eligible to apply to the MATL program.

Discounted Rate

Graduate academic semester units for these teacher induction courses are offered at a discounted rate of $195 per unit (3 units each course or $585 per course).

Courses for Teachers in

Year 1 of Teacher Induction

 

EDTL 600: Developing Teaching and Learning Practice (3 semester units)

Learners will have opportunities to explore and possibly transform their beliefs about teaching and learning. Current best practices will be shared to increase participants' competence in planning, designing, and delivering instruction to all students. Learners will demonstrate subject matter knowledge, based on content standards and frameworks.

  • Offered as a hybrid online course
  • Includes 2 face-to-face meetings on the SMC Moraga campus and 6 online modules in the spring (Jan 26 and May 11, 2019)
  • Complete all written assignments by end of May 12, 2019

EDTL 610: Connecting Teaching and Learning Practice (3 semester units)

Learners will apply concepts of learning, teaching and reflection, both independently and collaboratively. They will apply, document and demonstrate their learning through participation in Learning Community sessions. The focus will be on the California Standards for the Teaching Profession. Learners will develop lessons which are integrated, collaborative, and process oriented.

  • Must be enrolled in or have taken EDTL 600
  • Offered on the SMC Moraga campus
  • Includes 3 face-to-face class meetings in the spring (Feb 6, Mar 6, and Apr 10, 2019)
  • Complete all written assignments by May 12, 2019

Year 2 of Teacher Induction

 

EDTL 700: Exploring Teaching and Learning Leadership (3 semester units)

Learning community members will further examine teaching and learning practices. The development of individual learning plans using an inquiry-based model will guide participants toward demonstrating continued professional growth.

  • Must be enrolled or have taken EDTL 600
  • Offered as a hybrid online course
  • Includes 2 face-to-face meetings on the SMC Moraga campus and 6 online modules (Jan 26 and May 11, 2019)
  • Complete all written assignments by May 12, 2019

EDTL 710: Investigating Reflective Learning (3 semester units)

Learners deepen their understanding of learning, teaching and reflection, both independently and collaboratively. They will apply, document and demonstrate their learning through participation in Learning Community sessions. The focus will be on the California Standards for the Teaching Profession. Learners will develop lessons which are integrated, collaborative. and process oriented.

  • Must be enrolled or have taken EDTL 610 and EDTL 700
  • Offered on the SMC Moraga campus with 3 face-to-face class meetings in the spring (Feb 6, Mar 6,and Apr 10, 2019)
  • Complete all written assignments by May 12, 2019
