KGO radio spoke with History Professor Brother Charles Hilken and KCBS radio spoke with Communication Professor Fr. Mike Russo about the resignation of the pontiff. The pope cited his age and declining health as the reasons for his resignation. The last time a pope resigned was 600 years ago. Both Hilken and Russo are Vatican scholars and have studied papal transitions in ancient and modern times.
