KGO Radio, Univision Interview SMC's Sandra Mattar About Trauma Education

Sandra MattarSandra Mattar, associate professor in the Graduate Counseling Program and the associate dean of the Kalmanovitz School of Education was interviewed on KGO Radio on Dec. 17, 2012, about the rise of academic courses addressing the issue of trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in K-12 educational institutions.

Mattar was interviewed in the wake of the tragic mass shooting in Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., where 26 people - six adults and 20 children - were killed by a gunman. 

Mattar, who speaks four languages, including Spanish, also appeared live on the 6 p.m. Univision newscast Noticias 14, where she spoke about steps that parents can take to reassure their children who may be disturbed by the news of the violent deaths.
