KPIX/CBS 5 Story On Jan Term's Lying 101 Strikes A Chord

CBS 5 Lying 101 storyThe Jan Term course "Lying 101" has struck a chord with a variety of news outlets around the country. A story on the class, first broadcast by KPIX-TV/CBS-5, was picked up by a group of CBS affiliated news outlets, including stations in Oklahoma, Wisconsin and Florida. The news story also appeared on  Yahoo Sports.

The interest in the January Term course kicked off when KPIX reporter John Ramos visited Saint Mary's to speak with course instructor Rob Weiner about the course, which looks at definitions and the psychology of lying, ethical evaluations of it, attempts to detect it, and the many manifestations of lying in everyday life, business and, of course, in politics.

"Lying 101" is among the many innovative course offered during the College's intensive month-long session January Term.  A unique SMC offering, Jan Term has been recognized nationally for challenging students to step out of their academic comfort zones, enroll courses outside of their academic disciplines and take intellectual and creative risks.

Jan Term is also one of reasons the College was recognized in the prestigious higher-ed guidebook "Colleges That Change Lives: 40 Schools That Will Change the Way You Think About Colleges." Saint Mary's is the only California college and only Catholic college ever included in the book.
