KQED Features Perspective By SMC's Steve Woolpert
KQED Perspectives features the commentary "Tough on Underdogs" by SMC's Steve Woolpert on the trend in decisions by the Supreme Court of the United States to favor the rights of the top dog, rather the underdog, in cases before the court. Woolpert, whose academic research focuses on how U.S. political and social poliicies are influenced by the decisions of the high court, commented on the latest rulings by the court, including its pronouncements on the voting rights act, workplace discrimination, affirmative action and what parties have the right to present an argument before the court, as in the case of the backers of Proposition 8, which outlawed same-sex marriage in California before it was ruled unconsitutional.
Woolpert's commentary was broadcast during the July 31 morning newscast and will be rebroadcast on Sunday, August 4, at 7:37 a.m. It can also be heard on the KQED Perspective's webpage.
