KSOE Reading Recovery Center

On May 23 at the Soda Center the SMC KSOE Reading Recovery Center held their annual certificate ceremony to reading recoveryrecognize the teachers for their program completion. Dean Christopher Sindt welcomed everyone and spoke about the importance of literacy intervention in our communities and how Reading Recovery makes an indelible impact. He also introduced KSOE Associate Dean Mary Kay Moskal, who will serve in the Dean's role this coming year. Dr. Adria Klein, RRC Director and Trainer, thanked Dean Sindt for his support of Reading Recovery and for serving as Dean's Representative on the Reading Recovery Council of North America. Dr. Klein introduced each training district, and the Teacher Leaders presented certificates to their teachers.

Teachers earned their certification at eleven training sites in districts throughout California and one in Tucson, Arizona. Forty-one teachers completed training in Reading Recovery and Literacy Lessons. Five teachers who previously trained in Reading Recovery completed their certification to bridge to the Spanish program, Descubriendo la Lectura. One highlight was having the first group of thirteen teachers complete training in the Comprehensive Intervention Model. They were trained by the two literacy coaches who also were the first to complete the coach training program one year ago. About seventy teachers, Teacher Leaders and their families attended the ceremony. The ceremony provided an opportunity for everyone to see the range of the programs in the Center and hear about how many lives are touched by the Reading Recovery programs.
