SMC Library Pickup

  1. Choose your items:

    • Library stacks are currently closed, so it’s not possible to browse for books at this time.  Find an item in the Library Catalog and select request at the top of the page. Video Tutorial.

    • If SMC doesn’t have your item, request it on Link+.

    • If Link+ doesn’t have it, use Interlibrary Loan (you’ll need to set up an ILLiad account if you don’t already have one).

  2. We’ll email you when your items are ready for pickup. SMC items take 1 - 2 business days; Link+ items take 3 - 4 business days.

  3. Once you receive your email, you can visit the Library Service Desk at any time during regular open hours to pick up materials or schedule a drive-up curbside appointment and we’ll bring your item to your car in the Library parking lot. Drive-up pickups are available Monday from 10 a.m. - noon and Thursday from 4 p.m. - 6 p.m. in the library parking lot.

  4. To access campus for your curbside appointment, show your LiveSafe Daily Health Screening to the Public Safety officer at the entry kiosk. Then call us at (925) 631-4229 when you’re ready to receive your library materials.

Do I need an appointment to pick up my materials at the Library Service Desk?

No! Once you receive an email confirming that your items are ready for pickup, just visit the desk at any time during our regular open hours and staff will check out your materials for you.

What happens if I was scheduled for pick up, but I missed my window?

Any items not picked up during your pre-scheduled pickup window will be returned to circulation. Please let us know at (925) 631-4229 or Ask Us! ahead of time if you can’t make your appointment and would like to schedule a new one. 

What should I do if I have mobility issues?

Call (925) 631-4229 after you schedule your pickup appointment. Staff assistance will be provided to those who need help; we can bring materials directly to your car if you like. We may also be able to mail SMC-owned materials to you via Document Delivery.

Can I have someone else pick it up for me?

Unfortunately, no. If you have special circumstances, please contact the Service Desk at (925) 631-4229 or Ask Us!

What if I can't come to campus?

We can mail items owned by our Library to you via Document Delivery. Items borrowed from other libraries cannot be mailed.

How much time do I have to return my items? How do I return items?

Please check your account for due dates. Library materials may be returned to the book drop by the library parking lot or the one near the front entrance door.  If you cannot come to campus, you can mail the items to us.  Information on mailing items can be found at the bottom of the Document Delivery page.

What are safety measures being taken for the community and staff?

We employ social distancing and public health recommendations for operations. Library staff wears masks and gloves while handling materials, which are placed in a bag at pickup to reduce contact. 

When will all in-person library services and full access to the Library resume?

We’re working to expand all library services and access to the building as soon as possible while following campus, local, state, and public health guidelines for safe operation.
