R. E. Reynolds Medieval Facsimile Collection

Welcome to the R. E. Reynolds Medieval Facsimile Collection at Saint Mary's College of California.Herin lie early to mid Church documents spanning a range of topics including: prayers, chants, and commentaries.

The R. E. Reynolds Medieval Facsimile Collection was bequeathed to Saint Mary’s College in 2015 by R. E. Reynolds. The collection comprises over 30 pieces, ranging from the early to mid Church.

These letters cover a range of topics, including prayers, chants, commentaries on the Gospels and the apocrypha.

This website includes images of the facsimiles, transcriptions of the original text into the Latin alphabet (the usual type you are familiar to), translations into English from the Latin, and a brief explanation of the history of the piece. The transcriptions are made according to the exact lettering given in the facsimiles, and not according to the the accepted compilation which is an amalgam of various copies.

The transcriptions and translations and scans are done by Claire Challancin, Luke Perez, and Terri Tablin under the direction of Br. Charles Hilken, PhD and Kate Wilson, MA. The web site was organized by Luke Perez. The entire R. E. Reynolds Medieval Facsimile Collection, including related materials, is available at Saint Mary's College of California, Archives. A portion of the collection was published to the SMC website in 2019.
