Library Instruction and Librarian Consultation

Find out who your librarian is in order set up a library session for your English Composition, WiD, or other course.

Each academic department and program has a subject librarian committed to assisting faculty, students and staff of that department. Subject librarians work with faculty in the departments to build collections and collaborate in the development of information literacy goals and curriculum. Subject librarians also consult one-on-one with faculty.

Borrowing Library Materials

Use Library Search and choose "Library catalog" to locate materials in the SMC collection. The loan period for faculty is one semester for most material. Reference, periodicals, and special collections cannot be checked-out from the library. Most books can be renewed up to three times in person at the Circulation desk, by calling (925) 631-4229, or renewing online from our homepage. Notification is by e-mail for any overdue or lost materials and the replacement fee for any lost items is $75 plus a non-refundable billing fee. ILLiad Service and Document Delivery

Create an ILLiad account to request, track, and get material from anywhere you have internet access. Articles and book chapters are usually posted online in 2-3 business days. Books can be picked up at the Circulation desk within 2 weeks. Call (925) 631-4229 for more information. If you need document delivery, we will scan and deliver print material located in the library within 1-2 business days. We will also mail our library books to your home address or hand deliver them to your on-campus office. Document delivery is provided through our ILLiad service.
